ARDC: Measuring Impact

Australian Research Data Commons

2023

The ARDC is Australia’s leading research data infrastructure facility. They partner with the research community and industry to build leading-edge digital research infrastructure to provide Australian researchers with competitive advantage through data.

Challenge

Australia has world class national research infrastructures. Supported by the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), these infrastructures span disciplines and domains and are used by thousands of researchers  In 2020, ARDC announced funding for seven National Data Asset projects. These projects promise to improve research efficiency through greater sharing of resources, catalyze data science innovation, and enhance research translation into and among communities. The challenge is to track the delivery on this promise. This work is funded through a contract with the ARDC.

Solution

Mighty Red Barn collaborated with the ARDC and the National Data Asset program managers to articulate the goals, target users, and products and services for each program.  We researched impact frameworks, identified alignments with sustainable development goals (UN SDGs), and are currently testing an impact reporting template that the program managers can use to both showcase their data asset and track adoption and impact in their respective communities.

Deliverables

Collaboration White Boards, Facilitated Online Workshops, Impact Framework, Reporting Template
